Places of interest on the Isle of Mull

Cnoc Mor is the ideal location to explore the beautiful Isle of Mull. We have so much to offer visitors whatever your interests may be, from our wild life to our breathtaking seascapes. The Isle of Mull is home to the only White-tailed Eagle viewing hide in the UK, we have an island railway, Castles, Golf Courses, stunning white-shell sand beaches. The list is endless.

Following are a list of some trips, tours and places to visit that really should not be missed

Castles on Mull

Any visit to the Isle of Mull is incomplete without savouring the wealth of history and clan legend at Duart Castle. Duart Castle, seat of the Clan Maclean for over seven centuries, stands on a rocky outcrop offering excellent natural defences as well as fantastic panoramic views.  Torosay Castle and the ruins of Aros Castle in Salen Bay are also worth a visit. There are many important historical ruins on the island -  forts, brochs and duns can often be seen not far from the road.
Wildlife on Mull

For the wildlife enthusiast we recommend you take a guided tour at the start of your holiday so you'll know the best places to go for the rest of your week. The following Tour Operators will collect you directly from Cnoc Mor. Mull Magic conducts Corncrake Tours on Iona, Wild About Mull and About Mull Tours will take you to see our fantastic wildlife in a minibus.

Beaches on Mull

There are many spectacular white-shell sand beaches on the island, many on the south coast within a few miles drive of Cnoc Mor. You would be forgiven for thinking you had taken a wrong turn and ended up in the Caribbean. Calgary Beach on the North West coast of the Isle of Mull may be a longer drive but is well worth the visit. It is probably one of the most photographed beaches in Scotland.

Walks on Mull

Experience the beautiful landscape  and enjoy idyllic island walks on heather-clad moorland, along picturesque lochs, glens and shimmering white beaches. Both the famous Fossil Tree and Carsaig Arches Walks are within a half-hour drive from Cnoc Mor. If you need any advice on walking or routes on the island please contact Ruth at Mull Magic Tel: 01688 301213 who is happy to give free advice to walkers. Read the blog here.

White-tailed Eagle Hide

Mull is the only location in Britain where the White-tailed Sea Eagles can be viewed from an organised hide, which is manned by knowledgeable wildlife rangers. The Forestry Commission Bird Hide has been specifically designed for viewing the Isle of Mull's celebrity sea eagles. The Eagle Hide is now open all year but booking is essential.

Isle of Iona

Iona was the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland, here St. Columba arrived in his coracle in 563AD. The island is separated from Mull by the mile wide stretch of water, the Sound of Iona. Many people come to the island just to visit the Abbey but why not search for the elusive and skulking Corncrake, one of Scotland’s rarest Summer migrants that retains a stronghold on the island. There are tours twice weekly which will collect you directly from Cnoc Mor - click here for details.
